Green Energy Spending Up in 2010

According to a recent article on USA Today, global spending on green energy increased by 32% in 2010. There are a couple of major factors leading to the increase. First, breakthroughs in solar cell technology have allowed the cells to be manufactured much more cheaply, and secondly, there as been a huge swell of interest in green energy from developing nations.

Substantial investments into sustainable energy were made by both Germany (solar rooftops) and China (wind farms), but there was one big surprise- Developing nations spent more on renewable energy utility projects than did developed nations.

This is exciting news, especially for those of us in the sustainable design industry. However, it also underscores the fact that developed nations like the U.S. could be doing much more to support and encourage environmentally-friendly projects and initiatives.
