National Design Awards Winners Announced!
Last week the winners of the Smithsonian Cooper-Hewitt 11th annual National Design Awards were announced. The main three criteria that the jury looked at when deciding the winners were excellence, innovation and enhancement of the quality of life.
In the category of Architecture Design, the winner is the Philadelphia-based architecture firm of Kieran Timberlake. Kieran Timberlake is well known for their “integration of research with design, guided by a deep environmental ethic”. Their Special No. 9 House that was created for Brad Pitt’s Make It Right Foundation in New Orleans is helping the community bounce back from Hurricane Katrina. The firm has produced a diverse body of work for clients such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York and Yale University. Recently Kieran Timberlake won a competition to design the new United States Embassy in London.
