New Clyfford Still Museum in Denver
The new Clyfford Still Museum opened in Denver, CO on November 18th. Among the first generation of Abstract Expressionist artists, Clyfford Still was one of the most significant American painters of the twentieth century. With nearly 94 percent of the artist’s life work, the Clyfford Still Museum collection includes 825 paintings, 1,575 works on paper, and three sculptures. The initial exhibit will showcase 110 works, many for the first time.
The exterior of the textured concrete museum structure is a low, cantilevered building. The interior is designed to allow an abundance of light through skylights in the cast-in-place, concrete ceiling. The Museum was designed by architect Brad Cloepfil, of Allied Works Architecture, a Portland-based firm responsible for the notable Maryhill Overlook in the Columbia River Gorge, and Portland’s Wieden + Kennedy Agency World Headquarters.
Located near the Denver Art Museum between 12th and 13th Aves, the Clyfford Still Museum is at 1250 Bannock Street. Ticket information ($10.00 for adults) is available by visiting the Clyfford Still Museum website or by online purchase. Public tours are available on Wednesdays at 1:00 p.m. and Saturdays at 11:00 a.m., free with Museum admission. Don’t miss the Clyfford Still Museum here in Denver!
