The New World Trade Centers
Sunday will mark the 10th anniversary of 9/11 and while the nation remembers the tragedy we endured that day, many look to the future and the possibilities ahead for the site at which the Twin Towers once stood. Two towers, one called 7 World Trade Center and the other, 1 World Trade Center (Freedom Tower) are currently north of the site of Ground Zero. The new 7 World Trade was completed in 2006 and stands at 52 stories tall. Structural damage occurred to the old 7 World Trade tower when the North Tower collapsed on September 11, 2001. 7 World Trade is the first LEED certified office building in New York.
1 World Trade Center, originally called the Freedom Tower, is still under construction and is expected to be completed in 2013. Designed by David Childs of Skidmore Owings & Merrill LLP (SOM) the tower will reach the height of 1,776 feet and will be the tallest building in the United States.
