Yampa Valley Regional Airport expansion in its final stages
Ski season is right around the corner for those of us living in the Steamboat Springs area and luckily we have the beautiful Rocky Mountains in our own backyard so we don’t have to travel to find the good powder. But for those of you who have to venture down to the Yampa Valley Regional Airport just remember that they are undergoing a $6.8 million renovation project that isn’t scheduled to be completed until the 2011-12 ski season. The Yampa Valley Regional Airport (YVRA) is in its third and final phase and will move indoors this winter season to focus on the new, ground-floor restaurant.
The expansion project for Yampa Valley’s largest travel hub began back in the summer of 2003 and has already see an upgrade to accommodate Boeing 757 jets. When it is all said and done the new and improved airport will include a new restaurant, an expanded baggage claim area and a second story addition on the main terminal building.
Remember to give yourself plenty of time when traveling in and out of YVRA. It is recommended that you arrive at least two hours before your departure time.
