Head to the River this Memorial Day
Ski season officially ended last month, but have no fear adventure seekers, whitewater rafting has all the thrills you seek and more. This Memorial Day Weekend head outdoors and make your way to the river. In 2008, Yampa River Festival and Paddling Life Pro Invitational joined forces and started River Fest. Below is an outline of this year’s festivities from Friends of the Yampa River.
Friday May 28, 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm or later – Registration Party at Sunpies Bistro.
Saturday May 29, 11:00 am – Registration continues at Charlie’s Hole for all events.
Saturday May 29, 11:15 am – Raft Race signup at Fetcher Pond. Race will begin at Noon.
Saturday May 29, Noon – Riverboard Surf Competition at Charlie’s Hole. Entry is free. Riverboards will be provided.
Saturday May 29, 1:00 pm – Crazy River Dog Contest. Register at Charlie’s Hole and event will be held just downstream.
Saturday May 29, 2:00 pm – Tube Rodeo. $10 per participant. Held at Charlie’s Hole. Tubes provided or bring your own.
Saturday May 29, 3:00 to 6:00 pm – Kayak Rodeo. $15 per participant. Register at Charlie’s Hole. Event held at Charlie’s Hole.
Saturday May 29, 6:00 pm to ? – River Fiesta at the Depot. Silent auction, food, music, dancing and good times.
Sunday May 30, 10:00 am – Kayak Slalom. $15 per participant.
Sunday May 30, 2:00 to 4:00 pm – Junior Rodeo. $10 per participant. 18 years old or younger. Different classes. Watch the juniors rip the Charlie’s Hole.
Sunday May 30 – PL Pro Invitational begins
Sunday May 30, 4:00 pm – Practice runs at Fish Creek and Charlie’s Hole. The pro’s start getting ready for tomorrows competition.
Sunday May 30, 8:00 pm – Registration/Competitor’s meeting at the Charlie’s Hole
Monday May 31, 10 am – Fish Creek Race. Watch some of the worlds top professional kayakers sprint down middle Fish Creek.
Monday May 31, 1:00 pm – Freestyle Event. Watch some of the worlds top pro men’s and women’s rodeo kayakers rip up the Charlie’s Hole.
Monday May 31, 6:00 pm – Apres Awards Party at the Boathouse Pub.
