A Powder Mountain Retreat, Reimagined

Modern living space with mountain views and retro artistic elements
The main living area of this Powder Mountain retreat is defined by soft textures and a serene palette, inviting relaxation against a dramatic alpine backdrop.
Nestled in the slopes near Utah’s iconic Powder Mountain, this ski-in retreat home underwent a stunning transformation, trading in a dark, disjointed aesthetic for a serene Nordic-inspired escape. The interior design team at Vertical Arts and Stel House + Home worked to reimagine the space into a refined alpine home that embraces light, texture, and the surrounding mountain views. The result is a space that feels cohesive, elevated, and inviting.

Throughout the home, a soft, neutral palette provides a calming backdrop. Touches of blue and green weave throughout, reflecting the evergreen trees outside with a quiet visual rhythm. One of the most poetic transformations can be seen in how the team transformed the home’s large, structural support pillars into sculptural elements that mimic the slender elegance of the Aspen trees in the surrounding property.

A Living Area for Gathering

The main living area, previously dominated by an oversized, masculine sofa, now feels entirely re-envisioned to foster connection and expand usability. A pair of lounge chairs in warm leather and hair-on-hide, are now thoughtfully arranged to create conversational groupings around a more proportionally scaled sofa. A rug in cool green and navy tones unified the space, enhancing while floor-to-ceiling windows invite in natural light and panoramic mountain views.

The design team layered in practical updates, too, including integrated shades for the expansive windows, and a discreetly placed TV so nothing distracts from the view – or the vibe.

The Masterful Main Suite Transformation

The main bedroom suite underwent a significant change to meet the homeowner’s desire for a true retreat with enhanced luxury and utility. The team rearranged the layout to carve out space for a larger closet and a built-in home office, transforming the space into a private sanctuary. A custom nook with nature-inspired wallpaper and pendant sconces replaces a traditional headboard, bringing softness and depth to the space.

A new fireplace, clad in striking 3D concrete tiles with steel trim, adds a dramatic focal point while complementing the home’s existing steel-framed windows.

Elevated Entertainment

In the recreation room, sleek black cabinets and an eye-catching encaustic tile backsplash replace the original bachelor-bar vibe with something more grounded and timeless. The space now hosts a bar, pool table, TV zone, and game area, all arranged to accommodate different types of gathering.

Just steps away, the media room offers an authentic theater experience, with tiered theater-style seating and sound-enhancing finishes that make it as functional as it is cozy.

Characterful Guest Suites

Rather than designing one-size-fits-all guest rooms, the team curated unique details in each suite to reflect the home’s overall ethos – elevated, personal, and thoughtfully restrained. Consistent materials and a soft, nature-driven palette create cohesion across the rooms with individual accents that give each room charm and comfort.
