Grand Lake Remodel
This Grand Lake vacation home needed to be reimagined and enlarged as the ultimate Colorado summer getaway for a family of sailing enthusiasts and guests they love to entertain. The design needed to accommodate a variety of watercrafts outdoors and sandy feet indoors, while evoking class and refinement throughout.

The remodel more than doubled the home’s square footage (from 2,500 to 5,400) and created a sleek and modern style that nods to the home’s lakefront history. One of Vertical Arts’ top priorities was to seamlessly integrate the outdoor vistas into each of the home’s living spaces. Custom windows and minimal trim throughout the home create better sight lines and frame the surrounding lake and mountain views, creating a light and airy feel. Architectural extensions from a bedroom suite and deck from the master bedroom enhance the spectacular panoramas and improve connectivity to the water. A sitting area off the kitchen features lift-and-slide doors that invite the Rocky Mountain breeze indoors, and offers a great vantage point for lake spectators.

In this home, many of the elements were chosen for their function and practicality. The mudroom was designed for durability against wetsuits and wet dogs, and large, custom built-in bunks were designed for the rough and tumble of kids’ sleepovers. Outside, the home includes two boat slips and easy access for paddle boards and kayaks.

The exterior of the home boasts a mix of stone, reclaimed wood, and metal siding with large panel windows. The roof was redesigned and heightened to expand the view planes. A patio with seating areas and fire pit offer the lakefront entertaining options the owners were looking for.

From the inside and out, this waterside remodel resulted in a quintessentially Colorado escape that’s perfect for fostering family connections, entertaining and recreating. The Grand Lake remodel project was featured in Mountain Living.
