Located on a unique lot at the edge of downtown Steamboat Springs, this custom home fits into the existing neighborhood with its gable roof and rustic materials, but features the couple’s European, modern style inside. The resulting home is a lesson in scale, floor plan layout and blending aesthetics.
At the homeowners request, our team worked to create efficiency in estate planning, forming a liveable, functional home that maximizes experience over extra space. The steep grade of the lot presented challenges in maximizing views of Emerald Mountain on the main level of the home without interference from neighboring houses. The owners also wanted separate living quarters on the second level to serve as a mother-in-law suite complete with a private entrance from the garage. The home is sited at a 45 degree angle on the lot to allow for unobstructed views and features a wrap around front porch and side yard that’s connected to the neighborhood.
Reclaimed wood walls continue inside the home, but are mixed with concrete floors, warm oak ceilings, board formed concrete cabinets in the kitchen and pops of color in the powder bath and mudroom to give the home its distinctive personality. We created privacy and prioritized views in the main living spaces of the home and enjoyed incorporating European flair for an eclectic modern interior design.
