Funky Modern Steamboat Springs Row Home
This project sits in the Urban Street neighborhood we master planned in Steamboat Springs at the base of the ski resort. This ski home breaks away from the typical modern mountain aesthetic, using a fusion of vintage glamor, funky accents and playful design elements to craft intriguing and eye-catching spaces. The result is a row home that is not only visually stunning, but also deeply personal to the owner, functional and full of character.

The property gives an upscale boutique vibe while still maintaining the warmth and comfort expected in a mountain retreat. The heart of the home is its innovative staircase, which doubles as an ascending art gallery. As you climb from the lower level to the upper floors, you’re treated to a curated collection of slim ski prints, vintage posters and custom artwork that tells a story of retro cool alpine adventure.

Upstairs, each bedroom is thoughtfully themed around primary colors, with the primary room showcasing a striking red, black and white palette. The black and white patterns continue into eye-catching wallpaper in the other bedrooms and bathrooms. A vibrant blue suede room becomes cozy using chocolate brown accent pillows and a throw blanket with unique golden statues serving as nightstand lamps. Sunny yellows are present in another modern-style bedroom and in the character-filled bunk room. Throughout the home, carefully selected vintage pieces, pops of red color and playful accents like owl motifs add personality and charm.

Downstairs, the main living space continues the retro journey with mod accents and a fun color palette. The living room masterfully blends natural textures with the burnt red leather sofa, teal leather chair and plush throw blankets. A wavy colorful rug adds a dynamic element to the floor, while mixed metals in gold and black tones add depth. The dining room adds additional tactile accents with blue chairs, a vintage wood cabinet and curated decor.

The kitchen strikes a balance with a sleek and modern design, with nods to retro charm. Clean lines and contemporary finishes provide a functional backdrop, while curved, textured barstools and simple round lighting fixtures balance the space. The home is finished with curated details that speak to the owner’s personality, such as the resin-poured ski ice bucket, Dolly Parton prayer candle, and Studio54 coffee table books. These carefully chosen details create a tailored, bespoke feel that carries through every corner of the home.

While the design pushes boundaries, it doesn’t forget its roots. Traditional elements like hair-on-hide accent pillows on the beds and couch, a cowhide rug in the dining room and a petrified wood coffee table are reimagined in fresh contexts. The property’s rooftop lounge is complete with a fire pit and hot tub, offering breathtaking mountain views – the perfect spot for après-ski relaxation.
