River Road

The owners of this Steamboat Springs residence were seeking a custom home cozy enough to seek respite from Colorado winters, with modern sensibilities for the family’s active lifestyle. They were looking for all the home’s architecture and design elements to live in harmony without being matchy-matchy.

Vertical Arts’ multi-disciplinary team of architects and designers were up for the challenge, and sited the home across the slope, allowing the mass of the home to cut into the side of the hill. With careful planning, every level of the home seamlessly integrates outdoor living with walk-out patios. Expertly placed floor-to-ceiling glass windows and large lift and slide doors wrap the entire back side of the home, which opens up to panoramic views of the Steamboat Ski Resort and Fish Creek Falls Canyon.

The master suite features the same sweeping views, a stone fireplace, and a private office with a custom fabricated desk. The basement of the home is equally unique with integrated lighting details, 10-foot ceilings, a niche custom-built for a game table, and a barn door made from a vintage fire door. In the kitchen, the custom cabinetry meshes perfectly with the oversized steel hood and custom live edge bartop, hand-crafted by a local artisan.

The exterior of the home includes a combination of sloped and flat roofs, timber and steel details, and a variety of siding materials to achieve the modern look the client was looking for. The house boasts two water features, an outdoor kitchen, firepit and bocce ball court overlooking the Fish Creek Falls Canyon. An on-grade patio connects to the main living space and terraces down to a lower walk-out level and lawn. Native plantings and aspen trees help to blend the backyard into its natural surroundings.

Vertical Arts’ certified interior designers appointed new furniture that complements the eclectic mix of existing furniture and accessories the owners already had. Their unique artwork and furnishings from around the world fit right in with the new mohair sofa, crocodile leather stools and steel tables.

While Vertical Arts’ interior design services initially piqued the homeowners’ interest, our integrated team was thrilled to design this modern mountain home from start to finish.

The home has been featured in Denver Life + Home, Prestige Magazine and Colorado Homes and Lifestyles.
