Perched on a hill high in Tabernash, Colorado lies a rustic, wooded lot with expansive views of Winter Park ski resort and the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest beyond. Vertical Arts nestled the small 1,800- square-foot cabin between three prominent rock outcroppings, allowing for intimate, ever-changing views of the surrounding foliage and animals along with the stunning long views of the mountains. Vertical Arts used a simple sloping “box” to house all of the functional spaces of the home including bedrooms, bathrooms and a kitchen. The living and dining spaces are surrounded by glass, incorporating abundant natural light. The home features a simple palette of blackened steel and reclaimed wood, allowing the house to tuck into its rugged surroundings.
