Winter Weather Advisory In Effect For Steamboat
Living and working in Colorado we are lucky to enjoy world-class skiing and recreational activities all year long. This month we have had a lot of snowfall here in Steamboat Springs. And although it is our instinct to hit the slopes with this abundance of powder, we still need to be cautious about the risk of avalanches.
It is the job of the Colorado Avalanche Information Center to warn skiers and riders of the dangers of avalanches in the Steamboat area. “The best idea on big snow days is to gather your friends and hit the slopes. There’s always room for friends, even on a powder day,” said John Kohnke, patrol director told Steamboat.com. “It’s especially important to ski and rider with others when you’re playing in deep snow conditions, near trees, or in avalanche prone areas.”
